The creative vision

April Floyd

April Floyd is a St. Louis-born entertainment mogul, award-winning journalist, author, filmmaker, producer, performer, speaker and entrepreneur. Her work connects publishing, film, television, music, fashion, live experiences and community-centered opportunity.

As co-founder of FEG — Floyd Entertainment Group with Eddie Floyd Jr., April is building a creative home where original stories can grow across more than one medium. Through Floyd Books Publishing, she develops the Unique Series and the I Am Mother Series, along with other original works created to reach readers and audiences on the page, stage and screen.

Her film and television work includes I Am Unique, The Perfect Mate, Blue Lightning, Deadly Visitor, Wishbone Christmas and A Slammin’ Jammin’ Christmas. Across those projects, she brings together family storytelling, music, humor, faith, community and independent production.

April also co-founded Legends In Film, a St. Louis celebration honoring entertainment pioneers and connecting generations of artists and audiences. In 2024, the City of St. Louis recognized that mission with a proclamation of Legends In Film Day.

Her larger vision is to build a durable creative company where stories become owned assets, creators gain opportunity and St. Louis talent can reach audiences around the world.

The family legacy

Eddie Floyd Jr.

Eddie Floyd Jr. is co-founder and CEO of FEG — Floyd Entertainment Group, where he helps guide the company’s creative direction, production work and long-term vision. He is a photographer and director whose work brings people, performances and stories into focus.

Eddie Floyd Jr.’s roots reach deep into American music history. His father is legendary Stax singer and songwriter Eddie (Knock On Wood) Floyd, whose early recording career included The Falcons. Independent R&B histories document the group’s original racially integrated lineup and its August 1956 Mercury debut, “Baby, That’s It.” Marv Goldberg’s detailed Falcons discography and Michigan Rock and Roll Legends’ history of Detroit record labels record these details and Robert West’s role. The Billboard book American Singing Groups: A History from 1940 to 1990 also places the Falcons’ original interracial lineup before later groups with the same racial combination.

Robert West was Eddie (Knock On Wood) Floyd’s uncle and Eddie Floyd Jr.’s great-uncle. West managed The Falcons, arranged their first recording opportunity and issued the group’s early Detroit releases on labels he ran. Historical accounts document his work across Silhouette, Kudo, Bumble Bee, Flick, Contour and Lu-Pine Records. The labels recorded The Falcons and Eddie Floyd; Lu-Pine also released an early recording by The Primettes, before they became The Supremes at Motown. The label chronology and artist releases are documented here, alongside a discography of The Falcons’ releases.

Robert West’s connection to Berry Gordy also appears in Detroit music histories. Michigan Rock and Roll Legends describes West as an important influence and rival to Gordy. Motown Junkies documents Gordy’s production work for artists recording on West’s Kudo label and West’s firm distributing an early RayBer release. Detroit Sound’s interview with producer Don Davis also places Robert West among the pioneers who preceded Gordy in Detroit’s Black music business. These records make West’s work and influence part of the public history—not a claim resting on the Floyd family alone.

Eddie Floyd Jr. carries that history forward as a co-founder of Legends In Film, the St. Louis event honoring entertainment pioneers and preserving their contributions for the next generation. He is also helping build the planned Floyd Legacy Arts, Media & Community Foundation, envisioned as a lasting home for arts, media, legacy preservation and community work.

Alongside his leadership at FEG, Eddie Floyd Jr.’s photography and directing support the company’s films, live productions and cultural projects. He also participates in interviews about his family’s history, connecting audiences with the people, music and work that shaped it.

Through FEG, Eddie Floyd Jr. and April are building opportunities for original stories and St. Louis talent to move forward. Together, they will tell stories based on real historical facts.
